How To Choose A Moissanite For Your Engagement Ring

Shopping for an engagement ring can feel daunting with so many options on the market. There are numerous micro decisions and things to consider such as the type of gemstone, the shape, the cut, color, clarity etc. If you've selected Moissanite for your piece of jewelry, rest assured that the selection process for this particular gemstone is simple and straight forward.

If you've done a bit of research on Moissanite, you'll notice almost all Moissanites are lab created. This is due to the fact that Moissanite originates from space meteorites and is one of the few gemstones that cannot be mined from Earth. Unlike mined gems where the color and quality might vary based on the natural environment, lab grown Moissanites have consistent color and clarity, and basically have identical attributes.

There are however, options to choose from amongst lab created Moissanites, with the key differentiator being the color. The earliest lab Moissanites created were roughly an I color SI clarity (mid range quality). It was later improved to the G-I color range (upper mid range), and in most recent years, hitting the paramount of D-F color range (highest quality). While most consumers opt for the highest quality colored Moissanites, there is still the option to purchase G-I range Moissanites.

Nearly all Moissanite have the same high color and quality and won't have the color and clarity variations you would expect from a mined gemstone. Besides the color preference, the shape (round, oval, etc) and size (bigger or smaller) are the only other things to consider when choosing your Moissanite.
